About project

Lublin and the region were favorite settings to share stories Isaac Bashevis Singer, the Nobel Prize winner. He was a unique writer, whose works have made the region famous. These stories make the world know the names of towns: Bychawa, Frampol, Goraj, Janow Lubelski, Józefów, Turobin, Tyszowce. Where are the settings of each story?

How, in fact, world described by the writer looked like? How its look today? Where to find the traces? How current residents remember him? These questions led us to implement the project "Following Singer's stories. A Literary Guidebook to the Lublin Region."
To gain the information we went on a journey. We visited all mentioned towns. We called this journey: “Tales of the Ramblers' Meetings”.

We visited:
12 March 2009 - Lublin
17 March 2009 - Goraj
18 March 2009 - Frampol
25 March 2009 - Józefów Biłgorajski
26 March 2009 - Turobin
1 April 2009 - Janów Lubelski
16 April 2009 - Tyszowce
17 April 2009 - Bychawa

We were meeting people and places. We collected photographs and oral histories. We were taking photographs and filming. Also we were showing the knowledge and stories inspired by works of Singer. For the moment in the halls of libraries, cultural houses, schools appeared characters known from stories. Thanks to these meetings we know more about world which was featured by Nobel Prize winner. Residents of the “Singer towns” also know more about that world.

Here we show the gathered knowledge and give an account of the travel. We have gained good experience, and its give us hope for the next trip. We wish II edition. Already looking for stories, places, people, photos ...
